    Van Zelst Receives Three Awards

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Van Zelst Receives Three Prestigious
    Landscaping Industry Awards

LAUDED FOR DESIGN EXCELLENCE AND VERSATILITY IN CITY,
    SUBURBAN, AND LAKEFRONT PROJECTS

September 1, 2009, CHICAGO—As one of the largest and most respected landscape design, installation, and maintenance firms in the Chicago area, Van Zelst, Inc. has again achieved industry recognition having recently received three top awards from the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association (ILCA). The awards emphasize how the company works comfortably in small urban spaces, sprawling lakefront estates, and everything in between.

Owner and President Dave Van Zelst said: “We don’t have a ‘signature’ style. Each solution is tailored to the client and customized to the site. We employ our own masons and grow our own perennials because it’s just a better product for our customer.”

The Illinois Landscape Contractors Association awarded Van Zelst, Inc. the following honors:

    • Gold Award for Landscape Design, Construction and Management for Lincoln Park residence.
    • Gold Award for Landscape Design, Construction and Management for Lake Geneva residence.
    • Silver Award for Landscape Design, Construction and Management for Northbrook residence.

The Lincoln Park project is a great example of maximizing a small space. Solutions are tailored to a growing family and feature kid-friendly touches including a fountain and tricycle track. Plantings offer three-season color—a Van Zelst hallmark—and four-season container plantings figure prominently in the design. Lush parkway plantings add greatly to the curb appeal. The client is the third generation to work with Van Zelst.

The Lake Geneva project updates a classic lakefront estate. The planting goal was to retain native species including extensive vinca minor where ever possible while removing a great deal of invasive buckthorn and updating the flow and structural elements of the site. Van Zelst designed and installed natural stone “bridges” in the creek bed which provide access to the garden. A waterfall was also created and surrounded with colorful perennials to showcase the family’s favorite bronze statue.

The Northbrook project is part of a complete home and landscape renovation. Van Zelst removed an outdoor pool and added green space. Working with the owners’ African sculpture as the focal point, Van Zelst created new flagstone seating areas and bluestone walkways. The landscape was designed to maximize views from every vantage point of this modern home. A subdued color palette focusing on greens and reds reflects the owners’ minimal aesthetic.

Founded in 1979, Van Zelst, Inc. is an award-winning landscape design, installation, and maintenance firm headquartered in Wadsworth, Illinois. The Van Zelst team of landscape architects, designers, masons, and laborers develop and install customized, client-focused designs that enhance and beautify the surroundings.
