LANDSCAPING NEWS AND IDEAS FROM THE VAN ZELST TEAM.
Why stop at the grill?
Just when we think we've seen everything in spectacular outdoor kitchens, a new season brings even more options for entertaining under the sun and stars.
Living in a region with four distinct seasons (although some would argue we only have two—super cold and super hot), Midwesterners like to make the most of great summer weather. Why should someone be inside preparing cold and stovetop dishes, while the barbecue king holds court around a kettle grill? Take the whole party outside with a built-in, full-service kitchen.

Your kitchen can include:
- Gourmet grill and side burners
- Electric, gas or charcoal smoker
- Wood-fired pizza oven, fire pit and rotisserie
- Refrigerator and ice maker
- Beer tap
- Running water
- Patio heater
- Weatherproof storage
- Stereo system and lighting
- And on and on

If you use it (or wish for it) indoors, you can make it a part of your outdoor living space.
How are you planning to celebrate July 4, 2009? Go beyond the traditional burgers and dogs—talk to Van Zelst about preparing your outdoor kitchen for a big bang next Independence Day.
Maintenance keeps it healthy and green.
| A beautiful landscape appears deceptively effortless. But without the proper attention plantings can become overgrown and worn. That's why Van Zelst offers professional landscape management. Our experienced team focuses on three key elements: |
|
 |
- Consistent Watering: Many of our clients opt for an irrigation system. There's no more hauling hoses, and it provides the right amount of water at the right time of day. An irrigation system can be set up to water certain flowers or grasses more heavily, depending on their needs, and avoid spilling onto driveways and hardscape. This saves water and assures the healthiest plants possible.
- Planting Care: We go much further than simply mowing, deadheading and pulling weeds. After a season or two, plantings may require separation or moving. Old bulbs need to be replaced. Trees and shrubs must be pruned. There's a lot to consider, so we cover all the bases.
- Proper Nutrition: Fertilizer must be properly selected, timed and applied to provide the right nutrients and avoid growth spurts that can stress grasses and plants. It's a complicated job that many people prefer not to worry about.
Of course, we'll never prevent you from exercising your own green thumb as much as you desire. We'll just fill in around you, monitoring the growth, health and evolution of your garden, to keep it looking as striking as it was designed to be.
