We pride
ourselves on our individual approach to design. Each project
is unique, and that is our intention. We do not want to have
a "signature" style, nor do we want a "cookie
cutter" look, wherein the same few plants are used and
all the designs are similar. Instead, we work diligently to
satisfy each client's wishes, whether for a small colorful
flower garden, an estate with grand sweeping views, a private
retreat or a formal French-style parterre. All of the residential
work displayed within this web site was designed and installed
by Van Zelst, Inc.
Our design
process is equally individualized and geared to the specific
interests, dreams and desires of the client. Following our
initial conversation, after which we photograph or videotape
the site, we make preliminary designs and return for further
discussions. We may also visit during different times of the
day in order to assess such matters as the changing light
or the way certain shadows fall. How we work depends on the
project.

| Art
cannot be measured. Nor can an artist point precisely
to the source of an idea. Sometimes solutions for a design
problem flash instantly to mind. Sometimes concepts evolve
gradually. There is no common thread other than an approach
that starts with visiting the site and analyzing its specific
needs. The only thing we know is that, for each project
large or small, our work begins and ends with the client. |
